Site 35 is located west of Mount Timna in a relatively flat area within the Nahal Nehushtan basin. The site covers an area of ca. 125 × 100 m, and is dominated by architectural complexes with slag scatters, similar in characteristics to Sites 3 and 15. The differences between Site 35 and the nearby smelting camps of Sites 34 and 30 (located ca. 200/700 m to the northwest respectively) led Rothenbe

rg (1962) to suggest that the former was the location of the workers’ dwellings and workshops. However, these differences most probably reflect a chronological discrepancy. Due to the sites relative distance away from the main mining areas of the northwest and the other LB smelting camps in Nahal Timna, the site was excavated by the CTV Project in 2017. The location of the camp outside an enclosed

area, the slag scatters rather than the slag mounds as well as the percentage of QPW found in the excavation all supported its earlier dating. Organic material found in sterile context from its earlier strata was later analysed for C14 isotopes and dated to the 13-11th centuries BCE. Thus, the working hypothesis of the CTV Project has been that Site 35 is contemporaneous with the first Phase of L
